Nancy Bunker received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Speech from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in the 1970s. After a career in Labor Relations and Operations at Union Pacific Railroad, she earned a Master of Arts in English from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Tulsa; she joined the Humanities faculty at Macon State College in 2003. Awarded Explorations in Renaissance Culture's Most Distinguished Article of 2005, Dr. Bunker’s essay, “Feminine and Fashionable: Regendering the Iconologies of Mary Frith’s Reputation,” interrogates the real-life 16th century persona's literary and artistic foreground.
Her research investigates Shakespeare and Middleton characters who participate in their marriage choices and manipulate existing inheritance practices. She is currently examining ways early modern marriageable characters contribute to Elizabethan views of a legal self identity.
Dr. Bunker teaches composition, British Literature surveys, Introduction to Ethics, Shakespeare, and Milton. Named a 2008 Georgia Governor's Teaching Fellow, her research agenda focused on assmilating technology resources into the British literature survey course.
